I'm a 21-year-old college student. I've been in school continuously since I was four years old. I will get my doctorate sometime around 2009 (I had a great time my first three years in college) and then I will become a professor. So, I will spend my entire life from the age of four until death affiliated with the educational apparatus in some way.
The journal jerks from intellectual masturbation to cultural snobbery to navel-gazing introspection.
Politics-
When I was nine years old I was an ardent Paul Tsongas supporter. At fifteen I was a card-carrying member of the Communist Party. At twenty I registered as a Libertarian. I was pro-war in Afghanistan (despite the sick feeling in my stomach it gave me) and anti-war in Iraq (ditto). I do not place any great value on keeping my positions consistent from day to day, and sometimes I adopt an outrageous position just to see what people do. I've been fairly dubbed a left-wing anarchist, although I tend towards the individualist rather than the communalist branches of that tree. I'm fairly atomistic in my political thought and wish more of you were, but I do fallaciously aggregate for reasons of convenience/intellectual laziness from time to time. I don't trust the government and I say mean things about the President, so if this bothers you stay away.
No matter what you might say I could probably find a reason to disagree and a few arguments to muster against you. They might be ridiculously outlandish arguments, but still.
Love/sex-
My love life is dead at the moment. My sex life is not discussed in this journal because I am gay. You should not, however, assume it doesn't exist.
Elitism-
I probably think I am better than you in some way. Don't worry. I'm very cheerful about it.
Work-
I am a newly-minted bum. I have led a long career in the food industry (read: five years, intermittently) and have assisted in the management of a Taco Bell and a Hardee's, as well as been a cook at various reputable and disreputable establishments.
School-
I'm a classics major. This of course means that I will continue my advancement in food service. My Greek is practically nonexistent and my Latin is getting rusty, despite my best efforts. My command of Latin is about at the same level as our Glorious Leader's command of English. See? I told you I say mean things about the President.
Taste-
I don't like things that pretend to be more than they are. My taste in practically everything is better than yours. There are some areas in which I have no preferences; the proper reaction to these areas is therefore indifference and those of you who do care are clearly lame.
Religion-
I am a Roman Catholic. My theology is heretical enough to get me burned were this the 16th century, so thankfully this is the modern era and I can abuse the conscience clause in the Catechism. I have friends of all religious (save neo-Pagan, they draw much mockery from my end) and irreligious stripes. The one thing I cannot tolerate in religion is ignorance. If you bash Christianity (or any religion) for stupid reasons you can expect me to call you out on it.
Alcohol-
I like it. I like it a lot. Oh yes I do.
